The role of a labor support doula is to provide continuous physical and emotional support during labor and to help facilitate informed decision-making during the process of birth. A labor support doula begins working with you (and your partner) weeks before labor begins and continues this support for a few weeks after the birth.

Studies show that women benefit tremendously from the presence of a doula. Reduced rates of medical intervention, shorter labor, increased satisfaction with their birth experience, and lower rates of postpartum depression are just a few of the benefits.  Additionally, women who want, or need epidural also benefit from a doula's presence and support. Partners report feeling more confident, involved and present during this miraculous event with the extra support of a doula.

It is important to know that a doula does not replace your partner. Your partner has an very important role that no one else can fill. The doula's job is simply to provide nurturing, individualized support for both you and your partner throughout the entire birth process. This includes providing information and supporting you in your decisions, giving emotional and physical support, making suggestions on ways to facilitate the birth process as well as strategies for coping with the challenges of labor. Besides your partner and doula, no other birth team member will be available to you continuously during the full process of labor.

About Doula Services:

I work with my doula partner, Jacqui, to ensure full coverage and support for doula clients. Both Jacqui and myself take doula clients and back up one another when necessary. To inquire about doula services with either myself or Jacqui, send email to:

(Note: Doula services tend to book early! We only take a limited number of clients per month to ensure quality support and coverage. It is never too early to inquire and book your doula services.)

We know we said this in person, but we can't help reiterating how grateful we were to have you play an important and wonderful role at our baby's birth. We can't imagine it going any smoother and we will always be thankful for your calm nature, good will and strong guidance.
~Brenna and Nick

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us have the birth we wanted. We're so glad to have had your calming, gentle, wise and helpful presence leading up to and during the birth. We had a feeling you'd be a perfect doula and we were right!
~Marisa and David (baby #1)

And, of course, we don't know how to thank you enough for helping us to have the birth we wanted...again! Not a week goes by that I don't share our birth story and mention how awesome you were --- and how helpful "nature's epidural" was.
~Marisa and David (baby #2)

I don't know where to begin to thank you for all of your love and support along my journey into motherhood. Thank you for holding a sacred space for me during all the ups and downs of pregnancy and for your gifts of wisdom, knowledge of birth and baby rearing.

Thank you for being a part of the most amazing experience of our lives. We couldn't imagine doing it without you.
~Alexis and Rocky

You helped me to focus on my breath and kept me calm, especially when we learned the baby's heart rate was dropping in between contractions. Thank you for your sound advice and support in all of our decisions. We couldn't have gotten through it without you.
